Neoclassical Husk Festoon Garland

A garland that hangs in the air even when it is carved in wood. This is a neoclassical festoon — strands of tightly packed husks and beads that loop and swag across the panel, gathered at their junctions by small six-petal flower rosettes. The centre forms a teardrop loop, two shallower swags fall away to either side, and the outer ends finish in little pendant drops of graduated beads. It has the delicate, ribbon-light quality you see on Adam-style fireplaces and Georgian cabinetry, where the whole ornament pretends to be a real garland pinned to the surface. Use it as a frieze under a mantel shelf, a horizontal band across a cabinet apron, a drop beneath a mirror, or a repeating course along wainscoting. Because it is open in the middle, it looks light rather than heavy — good for pieces that would be overwhelmed by a solid carving. Print notes: • The husk pods are small and rounded; use a fine ball nose (2mm or less) for the finishing pass so each pod stays distinct. • Lots of narrow bridges connect the strands — on CNC, tab them down; on an FDM/resin print, lay it flat, face up, so nothing spans open air. • Check your smallest bead diameter against your bit or nozzle before committing; the pendant tips are the finest feature here. • A light coat of shellac before gilding or liming really makes the beadwork pop.
