Description

A wide baroque cartouche with a smooth oval cabochon at its heart and scrolls tumbling out to each end. This horizontal centre onlay is built around a plain domed oval boss ringed by a scalloped, petal-edged frame — a calm focal point amid all the movement around it. Above it rises a fluted shell crest; below, a little acanthus drop finishes the axis. Left and right, pairs of C-scrolls unfurl into tight snail volutes, each arm ending in a cluster of round beads like berries. The mix of a bold blank cabochon against busy scrollwork gives it a confident, upmarket look that carries well on a long span. It's made for the centre of a drawer front, a cabinet apron, an overmantel or a headboard rail where you want one commanding ornament rather than a repeating border. Print / cut notes • The smooth oval boss is unforgiving of tool marks — take a fine finishing pass and sand it glassy before the scrolls. • Rough with a 6 mm ballnose, then a 1.5 mm tapered ball for the volute curls and bead clusters. • Single-sided relief: it's already symmetrical left-to-right, so no mirroring needed for centred use. • In wood, seal before staining so the deep scroll recesses don't blotch; if printing, it lies flat and support-free for painting or gilding.
