Description

A slender carved drop to dress a cabinet or mantel. This is a vertical ornamental onlay — a symmetrical appliqué that reads from top to bottom as a fanned palmette crown, a pair of inward-curling scroll volutes, a long ribbed and tapering body, and a hanging acorn-like finial at the tip. The forms are rounded and flowing in a Baroque/Victorian cabinetmaker's style, with crisp channels separating each element. The back is left flat for flush mounting. It is made to decorate furniture and joinery: cabinet stiles, drawer fronts, mantelpieces, mirror and picture frames, headboards and door panels, adding a run of hand-carved character to a plain surface. Print & CNC notes • CNC-carve it in a close-grained hardwood such as oak, maple or walnut; a fine ball-nose bit resolves the scroll cores and channel detail. • Alternatively 3D print in PLA or resin and glue it straight onto the surface. • If printing, lay it face-up and add light supports only in the deepest undercuts of the volutes. • Finish to taste — stain to match existing timber, or paint and gild for a period look.
