Floral Acanthus Valance Cresting

A long, low sweep of carved foliage anchored by a single open bloom, a crest made to crown a piece of furniture. This horizontal onlay runs as a shallow bar that dips at the centre, where a five-petal flower sits above a fluted, shell-like drop cartouche. Symmetrical acanthus scrolls and feathery leaf tips fan out to either side along the gently curved lower edge, thinning to plain returns at the far ends so the piece melts into the host frame. It is designed as an applied cresting or valance, the sort of ornament fitted along the top rail of a cabinet, mirror, headboard, doorway or clock case. Print notes • Cut it face-up from a wide, straight-grained hardwood blank; lime, maple or tulipwood carve cleanly for the leaf detail. • The long thin profile can bow, so keep it clamped flat during glue-up and machine it with firm hold-down. • A small ball-nose finishing bit brings out the acanthus veining and the flower centre; take a slow last pass through the deep pockets. • For 3D printing, split it into left and right halves if it overruns your bed, print flat, then seam at the central flower where the join disappears.
