Graduated Shell Scroll Onlay Set

Three sizes of the same shell-and-scroll onlay, so every rail on the project matches. This set gives you a matched trio of horizontal appliqués — short, medium and long — built around one motif: a central scallop shell with a fanned, ribbed fluting, framed by symmetrical acanthus scrolls that roll to tidy volutes at each tip. As the pieces grow, the scroll count extends outward, but the proportions stay consistent, so a dresser, its drawers and its mirror can all wear the same ornament at the right scale. These are classic cabinetmaker’s onlays: glue the small one to a drawer front, the medium to a door rail, the long one across a headboard or mantel. They read as antique carved detail whether left in bare hardwood, painted, or waxed and gilded. Print / cut notes • Nest all three flat and batch them in a single job — they’re shallow relief with flat backs, ideal for ganging up. • CNC: a 3mm ball-nose handles the shell flutes and scroll hollows; leave onion-skin tabs so the slim tips don’t break loose mid-cut. • 3D print face-down; no supports needed, and the flat back bonds straight to the workpiece. • Print or cut in a pale hardwood or resin for the cleanest shell ridges, then finish to taste — the fluting takes a gilt or dry-brush beautifully.
