Description

A vertical garland of roses and wildflowers, carved in deep relief. D 702 is a long, slender ornamental onlay: a narrow strip densely packed with a climbing spray of blooms. Two full, open roses anchor it — one high, one low — with five-petal daisies, tight buds and slim pointed leaves winding up a central stem that tapers to a fine point at both ends. It is a traditional European furniture-carving motif, the sort of drop-ornament you see running down the stile of an antique wardrobe or framing the corner of a carved mirror. Apply it to cabinet doors and drawer fronts, bed posts and headboards, fireplace surrounds, pilasters or mirror and picture frames. Mirrored as a pair it frames a panel; repeated it forms a continuous vertical border. Print notes • This is genuine deep relief with layered petals, so give it a proper finishing pass — a 2mm ball-nose at a tight 8% step-over will pull the rose centres and leaf veins out cleanly. • Cut in a stable, fine hardwood (lime, walnut, cherry) that carves without chipping across the flower edges. • Orient the length along the grain so the tapered tips do not snap out during roughing. • After machining, hand-clean the deepest recesses with a detail chisel, then finish with oil or a dark wax to make the relief pop.
