Description

Dragon meets phoenix over a glowing pearl — the classic emblem of harmony. This is a fully sculptural tabletop carving, not a flat panel. On the left, a scaled Chinese dragon rears up from curling waves, jaws open, mane and spines bristling, its serpentine body coiling through pierced openwork. On the right, a phoenix answers it — wings raised and fanned, tail feathers streaming, neck arched gracefully. Between them sits a round flaming pearl resting on a little lotus cup, the traditional focal point of the pairing. The whole scene rides a bed of stylised cloud-and-wave scrolls and stands on a rounded egg-and-dart plinth, rendered in a warm sandstone tone that shows off the deep undercutting. The dragon-and-phoenix (long feng) is a beloved symbol of balance, prosperity and marriage, making this a natural wedding gift, mantel or altar piece, or a centrepiece for a study or lounge. Print / CNC notes • Detail-rich and full of undercuts — resin printing gives the best scales, feathers and pierced gaps; slice at a fine layer height. • Print upright on the base; expect a generous support forest under the dragon's head, the phoenix wings and the openwork gaps. Plan careful support removal around the thin cloud scrolls. • The flat plinth makes a stable footing; if carving in wood, rough with a larger bit then detail the scales and feathers with a fine ball-nose and hand tools. • Scales up impressively as a statement display piece; keep it fairly large so the fine scrollwork survives.
