Description

A winged dragon flares its membranes wide, ready to take the sky. This sculpt is a horned dragon caught with both bat-like wings thrown out to full span — long clawed wing-fingers stretching the veined, leathery membranes into a dramatic silhouette. The body beneath is compact and muscular: a crested, snarling head with swept-back horns, a ridged chest and short, taloned legs planted on the ground. Every surface is textured, from cracked hide across the wings to scaled plating down the torso, so it holds its detail from across a room. The pose is pure threat display, the wings framing the beast like a heraldic emblem. It works as a fantasy display piece and gaming centrepiece: a wall-mounted dragon plaque, a scenic base topper, a shelf sculpture or a bold motif above a themed doorway. Cut notes: • The wide, thin wings are the challenge — as a relief it cuts beautifully mounted on a backing panel; as a full figure it needs rotary or two-sided work and supports beneath the outstretched membranes. • Rough with a ball-nose, then detail the wing veins and facial horns with a 1mm tapered ball; those fine membrane ridges are the payoff. • Fibrous hardwoods or dense modelling board resist tear-out on the slender wing tips — carve the wing edges last and back them up. • Left in timber it suits a rustic hall; primed and drybrushed bronze or gunmetal it becomes a striking gothic feature.
