Braided-Beard Elder Bust

An old king holds his gaze while his plaited beard pours down like a river. This is a commanding bust of a bearded elder, cut in the round and set on a rough-hewn stone plinth. Heavy brows shade deep-set, watchful eyes; the hair sweeps back in thick combed waves, and the beard is the showpiece — divided into long, tightly plaited ropes that tumble in parallel strands over a draped robe. There is real weight and gravitas to him, somewhere between a Norse patriarch, a mountain-king and a classical river god. He belongs on a bookshelf, desk or mantel as a character statement, and suits fantasy, mythology and tabletop collectors especially well — a dwarf lord for the display cabinet or a stoic guardian for a study. The integral plinth means he stands unaided. Print / carve notes • Full 3D model: mill on a 4-axis, or slice for resin/FDM printing at a scale that lets the beard plaits resolve — around 120mm tall or more. • The braided beard is the detail-critical zone; a fine ball-nose (milling) or a 0.05mm layer height (resin) keeps each strand distinct. • Support beneath the chin and the overhang where beard meets robe. • In wood, choose a dense close-grain species — lime for crisp braids, walnut for a darker, older look — and rub oil into the recesses to deepen the shadows.
