Description

A grinning skull tips its top hat — part carnival, part graveyard. This is a tall, fully three-dimensional character carving built like a stacked totem. Crowning it is a stovepipe top hat, cocked at a jaunty angle with a fat rose tucked into the band. Beneath the brim sits a stylised skull with hollow sockets, a ridged nasal cavity and a wide, stitched grin, its cheekbones flanked by coiled rosettes like oversized earrings. Lower down the form melts into further brooding faces, giving the whole piece a carnival-of-the-dead, Baron Samedi swagger. It makes a striking gothic ornament — a shelf or mantel statement, a bar or den sentinel, a Day of the Dead or Halloween centrepiece — and its columnar shape lends itself to a newel-post topper or a chunky bedpost finial for the bravely themed bedroom. Cutting notes • This needs full 3D machining (or resin printing): rough out on a 4-axis or rotary setup, then finish with a fine ball-nose for the eye sockets and rose detail. • If printing in resin, orient the hat brim upward and support the undercuts beneath the jaw and rosettes. • Dense, tight-grained stock — pear, maple or walnut — holds the skull's sharp edges far better than open-grained timber. • The undercut shadows read best under a warm oil or dark wax rubbed into the recesses.
