Beaded Quatrefoil Frame Onlay

A four-leaf clover outline spelled out entirely in pearls. This ornament is a quatrefoil — four rounded lobes meeting at a gentle waist — with its whole outline traced by a continuous string of evenly sized beads, like a rope of pearls laid into a clover shape. The centre is a shallow dished field with a single small mounting hole, and the beaded border stands proud all the way round, catching light bead by bead. It has the feel of a jeweller's bezel or a decorative escutcheon. Use it as a raised appliqué on a jewellery box lid, a mirror or picture surround, a drawer front, or a repeated medallion along a piece of furniture. The bold, tactile beading suits ornate and cottage styles particularly well. Print notes • Machine as a 3D relief; a fine tapered ball-nose bit is essential to round each bead cleanly and dip into the gaps between them. • Run a generous finishing pass along the beaded rope — coarse stepover will flatten the spheres and lose the pearl effect. • Keep the dished centre shallow and the back flat so it glues down solidly onto its host panel. • Cuts well in hardwood for a natural look, or in tooling board if you intend to prime, paint or cast it in resin.
