Description

A solitaire ring waiting for its stone. Despite the catalogue folder, the image is unmistakably a piece of fine-jewellery CAD: a slender band edged along both rails with fine milgrain — that row of tiny beaded knurls — sweeping up into a raised four-prong head. The prongs sit at the corners of a cushion-shaped basket, and beneath them an open cross, or X, gallery braces the setting and lets light in under the gem. It is a semi-mount, modelled empty so a jeweller can seat a cushion or square stone of their choice. This is a file for casting rather than terrain or display: run it through lost-wax to produce a gold, silver or platinum ring, or print a wax pattern for a bench jeweller to finish and set. Print and cast notes: • Print in a castable/burnout resin at 0.025–0.035mm layers so the milgrain beading and prong tips resolve sharply. • Support from the band underside and the outer prong walls; keep the basket interior support-free so the seat stays clean. • Resize the shank to the wearer's finger size before slicing — scale the whole model, then check the band width hasn't drifted. • After casting, the prongs are left long for the setter to trim and bend over the chosen stone.
