Description

Frozen surf, caught mid-curl in warm gold. This is an abstract sculptural form rather than a flat panel: a set of sweeping, ribbon-like curves that fold and overlap like breaking waves. The upper section crests into sinuous S-shaped ridges lined with rows of small raised beads, as though foam had beaded along the edge of the swell, while the lower forms are smooth, taut and lens-shaped, catching the light across their broad bellies. The whole piece has a liquid, wind-blown quality — nothing is straight, everything flows. It works best as a modern decorative object: a machined hardwood or acrylic centrepiece, a resin-cast ornament for a shelf or console, or a contemporary art fragment for a coastal-themed room. The beaded ridgeline gives it real tactile interest up close, so it rewards being handled as much as displayed. Making notes: • On a CNC router this suits a 3D-relief toolpath in hardwood — rough with a flat end mill, then finish the compound curves and beads with a fine ballnose; expect a slow finishing pass to keep the domes smooth. • For 3D printing, resin captures the beads far better than FDM; if printing FDM, lay the curves so the smooth undersides face the plate and support the overhanging crests. • Orientation matters — angle the piece so the beaded ridge isn't fighting layer lines, then wet-sand and polish for that flowing, wave-worn finish. • Scales happily from a palm-sized paperweight up to a substantial mantel sculpture.
