Norse Spiral Scroll Corbel

A carved scroll alive with spirals — a corbel that looks lifted from a longship. This CNC/relief pattern is a sweeping S-shaped volute, its broad face covered in raised spiral and koru-style whorls that coil down the curve like waves and fern-tips. The scroll rolls over into a tight double curl at the top and opens into a ring at the base, and a set of round dowel pegs projects from the side — assembly tenons that let the finished part socket into a matching piece rather than decoration. That combination of ornament and joinery makes it a structural flourish: a bracket or corbel under a shelf or mantel, a decorative furniture leg or stretcher, a stair-newel accent, or a Celtic/Norse-themed display carving. CNC & print notes • For routing, hog the background with an end mill then finish the spirals with a fine tapered ball-nose so the whorls stay round and crisp; watch the deep undercuts at the top curl. • The pegs are sized as locating dowels — dry-fit before glue-up and drill matching holes in the mating part. • It 3D-prints well too: stand it on the ring/base and support the overhanging top scroll, or print flat-backed as a wall relief and skip the pegs. • Oak or ash suits the interlace look; finish with a dark oil rubbed into the spirals and wiped off the raised bands for a two-tone carved effect. Mirror it for a matching left/right pair of brackets, or scale down for a decorative pull or knob. A characterful blend of Celtic swirl and honest joinery.
