Carved Acanthus Cabriole Leg

A serpentine furniture leg dressed head to toe in scrolling acanthus. This is an ornamental cabriole-style leg carved in the round: a tall, gently S-curved upright that swells at the knee and tapers to a slim foot. Down its face runs a cascade of high-relief detail — a plumed acanthus fan at the top, a bold beaded C-scroll below it like a coiled spring of pearls, then trailing leaf fronds and reeded flutes that follow the curve all the way down. The back and sides are left plainer, marking this as a show-face leg meant to be seen from the front. It is made for cabinet makers and restorers building or repairing console tables, dressers, ornate chairs, or a statement hall table — anywhere a plain turned leg would look too bare. Print notes: • Orient upright along the machine's Z or split into a two-sided cut; the deep undercuts under the top scroll need either a 4th-axis rotation or a fine tapered bit reaching in from the front. • On a 3-axis router, carve the ornamented face as a deep relief and back it with a plain turned or squared blank. • For resin/FDM, print vertically with light supports only in the scroll undercuts; 0.08–0.12 mm keeps the beading round. • Finish with a dark glaze wiped back off the high points so the acanthus and pearls read clearly.
