Description

A tall, tapering column topped with a neat turned ball. This is a lathe-and-router piece straight out of the classical playbook: a slender shaft that narrows as it rises, wrapped in crisp vertical flutes that catch the light along their whole length. A ringed collar caps the top and cradles a smooth spherical finial, while a plain cylindrical foot at the base gives you a tenon to socket into a rail, plinth or panel. Drop it in as a staircase newel or baluster, a four-poster bed post, or a table and cabinet leg — or invert the proportions and it reads happily as a turned lamp stem. The unbroken flutes and simple geometry make it forgiving to cut and easy to repeat across a matching set. Print / cut notes • Ideal for a CNC lathe or a 4th-axis rotary setup; the flutes run true around the full turn. • On a 3-axis machine, split it front and back and glue the halves, or print it upright in two sections. • Mind grain direction when routing solid timber so the flutes don't tear out. • Sand the flute valleys with a folded strip or a shaped block to keep the reeds sharp and even.
