Description

A grand turned newel post crowned with a stacked, fluted onion cap. This is a fully three-dimensional stair post modelled for the lathe or rotary axis, reading top to bottom as a sequence of classic turning profiles. It opens with two ribbed, melon-like bulbs — deep vertical flutes wrapping each dome — sitting above a smooth vase-shaped baluster with a generous belly and crisp collar rings. The mid-section steps into a square block carrying a raised, blank cartouche panel: the ideal spot for a house number, a carved monogram or an inlay. Below that the profile returns to a rounded urn and finishes on a stepped square plinth. It suits the head or foot of a staircase balustrade, but the same file happily becomes a bedpost, a hefty table leg, a lamp column or a gatepost cap once scaled. Print notes • Turn it on a 4th-axis / rotary setup for a seamless finish, or CNC the round sections and route the square block separately. • Stand it vertically for FDM printing so the flutes and collars keep their symmetry; a light sanding follows the ring transitions well. • Leave the central panel plain or engrave it before assembly — it is flat and generous by design. • Wood-fill filament or a primer-and-paint finish both flatter the classical shape.
