Fluted Acanthus Table Leg

A show-stopping table leg carved head to foot. L 316 is a tall, square-section furniture leg with a gentle taper and carving concentrated at both ends. Up top, a moulded capital block sits over a rope-twist band and a large downturned acanthus leaf that spills over the shoulder of the leg. The long shaft between is fluted with a central raised spine, drawing the eye down to a second acanthus leaf and rope band near the foot, which finishes on a plain square plinth for joining. Only the front face is carved; the remaining sides stay clean. It is built for dining tables, consoles, desks and heavy cabinets in a classical or Louis-style register, the kind of leg that carries a whole piece's character. Print and carve notes • Because only the front face is carved, lay the leg carving-up: ideal for 3-axis CNC with no flipping, and support-light for FDM or resin lying on its back. • Rough the flutes with a ball-nose, then detail the two acanthus clusters with a tapered carving bit; the rope twists want a small round-over pass. • Printing? Split at a rope band to fit the bed, then pin and glue, since the joint hides inside the moulding. • Grain-fill and stain to match existing furniture; the raised spine takes a highlight wax beautifully.
