Description

A slender turned spindle, its tapering shaft wrapped in carved acanthus and crisp vertical flutes. This is a full-round baluster in the classical manner. A square mounting block caps the top, dropping to a beaded collar and a ring of small upright leaf-tips. From there a long shaft tapers downward, its faces cut with clean flutes that draw the eye along the length. Lower down, a cuff of upright acanthus or lotus leaves wraps the shaft, seated above a turned bud, a beaded astragal and a neat foot. The whole profile is symmetrical and elegant, the mix of smooth turning and sharp carving reading as genuine craftsmanship. It is intended for repeated use in sets: staircase balusters, table or console legs, bedposts and furniture uprights where a run of matching spindles is needed. Print notes: • This is a solid of revolution -- best produced on a lathe, 4-axis machined, or resin printed standing vertically for the cleanest fluting. • FDM: print upright and expect to sand the seam along the flutes; a fine layer height helps the leaf carving. • Leave the square top block intact for jointing, dowelling or mortising into the frame. • Scale the height to your handrail run or tabletop, and print a full set from one file so every spindle matches.
