Fluted Urn Staircase Baluster

A slender turned spindle stacked from a fluted urn and a carved tulip bud — classic staircase joinery. This model is a fully three-dimensional turned baluster, the kind that fills the run between a handrail and the string of a staircase. From the top it opens with a small ring collar, then swells into a tall fluted urn crowned by a ring of upright acanthus tips. Below the urn's neck a second, shorter fluted vase steps down through a beaded torus, and the lower third tapers into an elegant teardrop carved with a bold tulip-and-leaf motif. Square blocking is left top and bottom so the piece can be housed straight into rail and base without extra jointing. It suits period staircases, porch balustrades, gallery railings and bespoke furniture legs where a plain spindle would look mean. CNC / print notes: • This is a wrap-around 3D carving — cut it on a 4th-axis rotary or lathe-mill setup, roughing with a bullnose and finishing the flutes with a fine ball-nose. • Keep the grain running vertically if milling in wood (oak, ash, sapele) so the slender waist doesn't split. • For resin or FDM, print upright and mirror the model to get a matched left/right pair for a full flight. • Fully symmetrical in the round; scale the height to your rise while holding the square block sizes to match existing balusters.
