Description

A stacked run of carved urns and beaded rings — a baluster with real presence. This turned post reads top to bottom as a sequence of classical shapes: a small ringed cap sits above a fluted, urn-shaped upper bowl rimmed with a leaf collar; below it a beaded astragal, then a second fluted urn, a rope-twist torus, and finally a long teardrop base carved with a bold upright palmette and lotus-leaf motif, resting on a turned ball foot. Every section is crisp and deeply cut, giving strong light and shadow. Pieces like this serve as staircase balusters, newel posts, heavy table and console legs, or bedposts. Printed small, it makes an elegant candlestick or trophy-style ornament. Print notes: • Print or cut it upright along the vertical axis to keep the flutes and rope-twist symmetrical. • On a rotary or 4th-axis CNC, rough the whole profile then finish the fluting and the palmette base with a fine ball-nose stepover. • For FDM, a wide base or raft steadies the narrow foot; 0.12 mm layers keep the beading defined. • The undercut leaf collar and the palmette tips may need light support on resin printers. • Smooth the plain torso sections with progressive sanding before staining so the wood tone stays even. Match the diameter to your existing balustrade or leg stock and it drops straight into a set; a mid-brown stain or limed-oak finish flatters the layered carving.
