Description
A turned spindle crowned with a crisp barley-twist spiral. This is a classic furniture-and-joinery leg: square blocking at the very top and bottom for clean mortise joints, ring-turned collars and a vase-shaped upper bead, and a long central shaft cut with a rope-like spiral twist that flows down into a run of straight flutes near the base. It's a versatile part, equally at home as a table or chair leg, a staircase baluster, a bed post, or a decorative newel spindle. The geometry is symmetrical top-to-bottom around the twist, so it drops into repeating runs without looking busy, and the square ends make alignment and glue-up straightforward. Cut & print notes • This is a natural 4-axis / rotary CNC job; index the blank and run the twist and flutes in one continuous pass for a seamless spiral. • On a lathe you can turn the beads and collars conventionally, then hand- or router-cut the twist. • Beech, oak, maple or ash all hold the sharp spiral arris well; keep the grain running the length of the blank. • If 3D printing, stand it vertically and print at fine layers so the twist stays smooth, with light supports only under the top block. • Mirror or repeat as needed for a matched set of legs or a full balustrade.
