Acanthus-Carved Cabriole Furniture Leg

A furniture leg with a leaf at the knee and a flourish at the toe. This is a single carved furniture leg in the cabriole tradition: a squared mounting block at the top, a gently swelling knee dressed with a symmetrical acanthus-leaf cartouche, then a long tapering shaft that sweeps down to a small carved foot finished with a fan of petals. The carving is restrained and elegant — one clear leaf motif up top, echoed by a smaller one at the base — so it reads refined rather than busy. The rest of the shaft is left smooth, letting the grain (or paint) carry the eye down the taper. It is intended for makers restoring or building furniture: a table, console, cabinet, stool, or bench that wants a matched set of legs with a period feel. One file, replicated four times, gives a coordinated set. Print notes: • On a CNC router this is typically a two- or four-sided job; index the blank and machine each face, or rough on a 4th-axis if you have one, then finish with a fine ball-nose for the leaf detail. • For 3D printing, lay it horizontally along the bed and support the carved knee and foot, or split at the block for a cleaner vertical print. • Scale the height to your build and keep the top block sized to your apron joinery. • Sand the smooth shaft thoroughly before finishing — tool or layer marks show most on the plain taper, while the carved zones hide small imperfections.
