Description

A carved column segment that turns a plain post into a piece of furniture. This model is a vertical decorative baluster, the sort used for bed posts, staircase newels or the corner uprights of a dresser. Reading top to bottom, it opens with a smooth cylinder capped by a beaded, petal-edged collar. Below that sits a raised band carrying two full daisy rosettes flanking a slim central fleuron, then the profile swells into a bulb wrapped in a drooping acanthus-leaf skirt. The lower spindle tapers away in long reeded flutes to a small turned foot. It is a symmetrical, in-the-round design meant to be read from every angle. Cabinetmakers and restorers can drop it into period-style furniture, and it stands alone just as well as a candlestick blank or lamp column. Because the relief wraps the full cylinder, it suits 4th-axis rotary CNC work as readily as a resin or FDM print. Print notes • Print or carve upright along the long axis for the cleanest reeding; the beaded cap is the natural top. • On a filament printer the drooping acanthus petals overhang, so add tree supports there and nowhere else. • For rotary CNC, index the daisy band so the two rosettes land on opposing faces. • Sand the plain cylinder sections first; the carved zones only need a soft brush to keep detail crisp before staining.
