Description

A slender turned post that erupts into a cascade of curling acanthus leaves. This is a decorative table-leg carving (equally at home as a newel or pedestal detail): a smooth tapered column at the top that flows down into a long, richly modelled acanthus leaf covering most of its face. The leaf is deeply veined and lobed, each frond curling and overlapping the next in a feathery, symmetrical spray that narrows to a pointed teardrop finial at the base. The relief is bold and rounded, built to read from across a room and to catch light along every ridge. It is the kind of ornament that turns a plain leg into a period furniture piece, ideal for consoles, side tables, dressers, pedestals and bed frames in a classical, French or Victorian style. CNC / print notes: • A true 3D carving, best cut on a 4-axis or rotary setup, or as a half-round relief on a 3-axis machine for applying to a flat leg face. • Rough with a tapered ball-nose, then run a fine finishing pass to bring out the leaf veins; close-grained hardwood such as beech, cherry or walnut holds the detail. • For 3D printing, orient it vertically or on its back with light supports under the curled leaf tips; resin captures the veining best. • Keep the thinnest frond edges above roughly 1.5 mm so they survive machining and handling.
