Description

A carved column dressed head to foot in ornament. This tall, tapering post is a fully sculpted architectural leg: it opens at the top with a small acanthus capital flanked by tight Ionic-style volutes, drops into a central cartouche where a scrolled crest sits above a flower rosette, and trails a pendant of stacked husk-like bellflowers down the shaft. Feathery carved bands run down both edges before the base blooms into a second floral medallion and flares out on scrolled feet. Every face is worked in deep, confident relief. It is designed for staircases as a newel post, but the same model serves as an ornate table or console leg, a pilaster set against panelling, or a standout carved corbel. In a period interior it can anchor a whole scheme. Machining notes: • This is a full three-dimensional carving — best cut on a 4th-axis or rotary setup, or machined in front-and-back halves and glued if you only have three axes. • Rough with a stout ball-nose, then finish the deep undercuts with a long, slender tapered ball to reach the husk pendant and volutes. • A dense, even hardwood — oak, beech or walnut — holds the fine detail; expect several finishing passes. • Leave stock at both ends for mounting, then hand-detail the sharpest scrolls after machining.
