Description

A twist of rope in wood, capped top and bottom with a bloom. This is a tall, narrow vertical column moulding carved as a barley-twist rope — a fat, even spiral coiling up the whole length so it reads as a thick braided cable standing on end. At each end sits a small square block carved with a layered rosette flower, giving the run a finished cap rather than a raw cut-off. The spiral pitch is regular and the strands are rounded and full, so the piece throws a strong ribbon of highlight and shadow down its length. This is a classic cabinetmaker's ornament: fit it either side of a door or drawer bank, up the stiles of a wardrobe, along a fireplace surround, or vertically to break up a flat panel. Use it as a matched pair to frame a centrepiece. Cut & print notes • On a CNC router this wants a 4th-axis or rotary setup to carve the true round twist; on a flat bed you can machine it as a half-round relief instead. • As a print, run it upright and it needs almost no support; the rosette caps are the only detail zones. • Scale the length freely — stretch the twisted middle, keep the square rosette blocks their original proportion. • Takes stain and wax beautifully; a dark glaze wiped into the spiral valleys deepens the rope effect.
