Carved Acanthus Cabriole Furniture Leg

A cabriole leg with all the swagger of an antique cabinet. The profile flows in one long S-curve — a carved knee up top crowned with curling acanthus and a scrolled cartouche, then a slim ankle that kicks out into a neat scrolled toe at the floor. A plain square block sits at the very top, ready to be mortised or bolted into a rail. This is a working furniture part, not a figurine. Pair four of them under a side table, a vanity or a small chest, or stand a single leg as a bracket, plinth support or newel accent. The carving stays confined to the front of the knee, so the back is left flat and easy to join. Print / cut notes • For CNC this is a natural 4-axis or rotary job in oak, walnut or beech; index the blank and reach the deep knee scrolls with a tapered ball nose. • 3D printing? Lay it on its flatter side with the block supported, or split at the ankle to dodge the overhang under the toe. • Scale the top block to match your apron thickness before slicing — measure twice. • Fill the grain and use a wiping stain so the carved acanthus pops under raking light.
