Description

A turned spindle dressed in a riot of carved scrollwork down its middle. The column has classic bobbin-and-urn turnings at each end — bulbous vase shapes with crisp collars and rings — bracketing a straight central drum that is wrapped entirely in deep-relief foliage. Swirling volutes, curling acanthus leaves and tight spirals cover the surface in an intricate, all-over pattern, cut deep enough to throw real shadow. The mix of smooth lathe forms and dense hand-carved ornament makes it feel genuinely traditional and substantial. It is built for architectural and furniture work: a staircase newel or baluster, a bed post, a table or console leg, or a decorative pillar in a cabinet build. CNC notes • This is a full-round part, so a 4-axis rotary job on a round or lathe-turned blank is the natural route; the turned collars can even be finished on a lathe first. • Rough out the scroll drum, then finish with a ballnose at a fine stepover to keep the volutes clean. • Choose a tight-grained hardwood such as oak, maple or beech and watch grain direction across the curls to avoid tearout. • Prefer it as decor rather than structure? It also resin-prints well as an ornamental column at reduced scale.
