Acanthus-Dressed Cabriole Furniture Leg

An elegant cabriole leg with a cascade of acanthus. This is a full three-dimensional furniture leg carved in the queen-anne cabriole tradition: a square mounting block at the top flows into a pronounced knee, then sweeps down through a long graceful S-curve to a slender ankle and a scrolled foot. The knee is dressed with a carved acanthus leaf that unfurls in overlapping lobes, while the base terminates in a tidy volute scroll and a small rosette button, giving the whole piece a refined, antique cabinet-maker's silhouette. It is intended for real furniture and restoration work: console and side tables, occasional chairs, cabinets, stools or a decorative plinth. Carved as a matched set of four it lifts a plain frame into something with genuine period character. Carving and print notes: • Best cut on a 4-axis or rotary-capable CNC from a squared blank of oak, beech, mahogany or maple; watch grain direction so the slender ankle stays strong. • Rough the profile, then finish the acanthus and scrolls with a small ball-nose to keep the leaf veins crisp. • 3D print it first at reduced scale as a fit-and-proportion prototype before committing timber. • Scale the model to your finished leg height and leave the top block oversized so you can true it up and cut joinery to your apron.
