Description

A furniture leg dressed for a ballroom. This is a fully turned and carved leg in a French, Louis-revival spirit: a slender, gently tapering shaft that swells to a decorative capital at the top and finishes on a small turned foot. Around the upper collar sits a garland of carved roses and blossoms, above which drapes a stylised acanthus swag and a beaded band; the lower shaft carries crisp reeding, and the ankle is wrapped in a sheath of acanthus leaves over a beaded ring. It is meant for real cabinetry — a console table, a dressing table, a bench or an upholstered chair — and one file gives you a leg you can mirror and repeat around a piece. The mix of turned sections and applied carving reads as genuinely hand-worked once finished. Cut notes: • This wants a 4-axis / rotary CNC, or a turned blank finished with hand carving; the floral collar needs a fine ballnose and a small tapered ball for the undercuts. • Leave the shaft slightly proud and hand-sand the reeding dead straight — machine marks show on long verticals. • In a soft hardwood like tulipwood or lime the flowers carve cleanly and take paint or gilding well. • Seal the end-grain on the foot before finishing to avoid blotchy stain uptake.
