Acanthus-And-Bellflower Cabriole Leg

A cabriole leg dressed for a ballroom: acanthus at the knee, a cascade of bellflowers down the shin. This is a fully three-dimensional carved furniture leg with a classic S-curve profile. At the top the knee erupts in a deep acanthus scroll that curls over into a tight volute, its leaves overlapping in layered, feathered folds. From there the leg sweeps down and forward, tapering to a slender ankle before flaring into a small scrolled foot on a flat pad base. A delicate string of husk-and-bead drops trails down the front face, and a single leaf tips the lower shin. It is meant for the corner of a console, side table, cabinet or upholstered stool in a baroque, rococo or French-provincial register, and is best carved as a set of four for a full piece. Print notes • This is a true 3D carving; on a CNC plan for four-axis or two-sided machining to reach the fully rounded back and the undercut scroll. • In resin or FDM, print it standing with the foot down and supports under the projecting acanthus curl and the bellflower drops. • Orient it to keep layer lines running along the leg for the strongest slender ankle. • Prime and sand the broad sweeping faces, but leave the deep leaf valleys crisp so paint or gilding pools attractively.
