Description

An oak branch spiralling up a slender column, acorns and all. Behind the shorthand code sits a decorative carved column — a round shaft wound from top to bottom with a winding vine of deeply cut oak leaves, their lobed edges curling off the surface, with clusters of acorns tucked between them. The top finishes in a small collared cap and the base swells into a turned, vase-like foot, marking it out as a newel post, furniture leg or ornamental pillar rather than a flat panel. It is ideal for CNC and lathe-relief work: staircase newels, bed and table legs, mantel supports or standalone decorative pillars. The botanical theme suits traditional, rustic and country-house interiors where hand-carved timber is the look. Cut & print notes • For CNC, this calls for 4-axis or rotary carving so the leaf wrap runs continuously around the shaft; oak or beech shows the grain beautifully. • Rough out with a ball-nose bit, then finish with a fine stepover to catch the leaf veins and acorn caps. • If 3D printing instead, stand it vertically and add light supports under the leaf undercuts; resin holds the fine foliage best. • Sand the smooth base and cap, leave the foliage crisp, then oil or stain to deepen the carved shadows.
