Description

A vineyard climbing up a classical column. This is a turned decorative pillar wrapped in a carved grapevine that spirals from base to cap. Fat clusters of grapes hang against broad five-lobed vine leaves, with tendrils and stems winding around the shaft between them. Top and bottom are finished with matching collars of stylised acanthus-and-bead moulding, giving the piece a proper capital and plinth so it reads as a finished architectural element rather than a plain baluster. The form suits anything that wants a warm, old-world craftsmanship feel: a newel post or stair spindle, a furniture leg, a bed or mantel accent, a bar-front or cabinet pilaster, or simply a standalone carved ornament for a shelf. The grape-and-vine theme also makes it a natural fit for a wine room, kitchen or tasting-bar surround. CNC / carving notes: • This is a full round model. Cut it in a 4th-axis rotary setup for a true column, or split it front/back and carve two halves on a flat 3-axis bed, then glue. • Rough with a large ball-nose, then finish the grapes, leaf veins and undercuts with a small tapered ball-nose; the deep spiral needs a long-reach bit to avoid collet rub. • Close-grained hardwood such as beech, cherry, maple or lime holds the rounded grape detail best; softwoods will fuzz on the leaf edges. • Sand the clusters by hand and consider a stain-and-wipe to sink pigment into the recesses and lift the relief.
