Diamond Lattice Turned Spindle

A crisp, geometric take on the staircase spindle. This turned baluster runs symmetrically top and bottom from a plain square block, through a twisted-rope collar, into a long tapered cone wrapped in a sharp diamond lattice — a raised crosshatch that catches light along every ridge. The two lattice cones meet at a smooth swollen bulb in the middle, a plain-turned belly that gives the eye somewhere to rest between the busy diamond work. It's a clean, almost architectural rhythm rather than a floral one, which makes it read as modern-traditional and works as well on a contemporary oak stair as a classic one. Use it as a baluster, a table or console leg, a bedpost section, or a repeated porch spindle. CNC & print notes: • Fully turned in the round — mill it on a rotary 4th axis or print it upright; a flat carve will not reproduce the wrap-around lattice. • The diamond ridges are shallow but sharp; finish with a fine ball-nose and light stepover so the crosshatch stays defined and doesn't blur. • In timber, keep grain vertical and pick a dense species (beech, maple, oak) so the raised diamonds survive sanding. • For resin, orient vertically with the square blocks as your contact points; scale height to your rise and duplicate for a full run of matched spindles.
