Acanthus Scroll Staircase Newel Post

A grand staircase newel dripping with acanthus leaves and Baroque scrollwork. This is a beautifully carved architectural post rendered in a warm sculpted style. The profile sweeps in a long S-curve — a scrolled volute crowns the top where a square tenon socket waits to receive a rail or cap, and the shaft flows down into a second, much larger spiral volute that coils tightly above a turned ring collar and plinth. Running along the belly of the curve is a spray of acanthus foliage, the leaf tips lifting away from the surface with real depth. It reads as classic French / Baroque cabinetmaking — the kind of detail you find on staircases, bed posts and console tables in period interiors. It is aimed squarely at CNC woodworkers and furniture makers: a newel post, a stair volute, a decorative table or bench leg, or a mantel corbel carved in oak, walnut or beech. CNC notes: • The ornament wraps multiple faces, so a 4th-axis / rotary setup gives the cleanest result; on a 3-axis machine, split the model down the centre, carve two halves and glue. • Rough with a large end mill, then finish the scrolls and acanthus with a tapered ball-nose bit at a fine stepover. • Hardwoods hold the crisp volute edges far better than softwood; a light hand-sand follows the tool paths. • Scale the height to your rail or seat dimension before cutting, and seal with wax, oil or stain to pop the carved shadows.
