Acanthus And Rosette Turned Leg

A turned leg where the lathe stops and the carving begins. The model reads as a classic furniture or newel leg built in stacked stages: a flared, ringed cap up top, a swelling vase-shaped belly in the middle, and a plain turned cylinder tailing down to a small drop finial. The belly is the showpiece — deeply carved acanthus leaves fan up each face, their veins and curled tips crisply undercut, with a round daisy-style rosette nestled at the base of each leaf. It's a warm, traditional profile that would suit a hall table, a bed post, a mantel bracket or a stair newel. Cabinetmakers and CNC carvers can run this on a 4th-axis rotary or mill it in halves and glue up. The turned rings keep it honest even where the router can't reach. Print notes / CNC notes • On a rotary axis, rough with a ball-nose then finish the acanthus with a fine tapered bit for clean vein detail. • No rotary? Split the STL down the centre, machine two mirrored halves and laminate — the seam falls in the plain turnings. • Straight-grained hardwoods (oak, maple, beech) carve the leaf undercuts cleanly; seal end grain before finishing. • To resin-print instead, stand it vertical and support only the leaf overhangs; 0.05 mm layers keep the rosettes sharp. Scale the length to your project and the ornament scales with it — a genuinely reusable turned-and-carved component.
