Acanthus Urn Baluster Spindle

A turned-and-carved baluster with an acanthus urn at its waist. The model is a tall vertical spindle: square-capped at the top, then stepping into a long fluted shaft that tapers gently downward. At the midpoint it swells into a carved bulb wrapped in acanthus leaves, drops through a ringed collar, and finishes in a second fluted, leaf-carved section above a square base block — the classic profile of a staircase baluster, newel or ornate furniture leg. This is architectural and furniture hardware rather than a display ornament. Cut a run of them for a staircase or gallery railing, use single pieces as table or console legs, or repurpose one as a lamp body or pedestal. The square top and bottom blocks give clean, flat surfaces for joining to rails and treads. CNC / print notes • Suits 4-axis / rotary CNC turning; on a 3-axis machine, cut it in two halves and glue for a full round, or machine the front relief only for a wall-mounted half-baluster. • For FDM or resin, print vertically along its length so the fluting runs with the layers and the profile stays symmetrical; a brim steadies the tall, slim print. • The acanthus bulb is the detail zone — a fine finishing pass or 0.1 mm layers keeps the leaf edges sharp. • Hardwood (oak, beech, ash) matches real stair stock; painted MDF works for interior newels. Scale the height to your rail-to-floor rise to match existing balusters.
