Description

A cabriole leg with a carved acanthus knee and a whorl for a toe. This is a single ornate furniture leg in the classic cabriole S-curve. The top block — the knee — is carved with layered acanthus leaves gathered around a central pearl or button, then the shaft sweeps outward and down in a smooth reverse curve before tucking back to a neat scrolled whorl foot. It is pure Queen Anne meeting French provincial: graceful, load-bearing and instantly antique in feel. Make a set of four for a side table, console, cabinet or upholstered stool, or a pair as front legs alongside plainer rear ones. CNC notes: • Best cut as a full 3D carving on a 4-axis or rotary setup so the curve and carving wrap around the blank. • Choose a stable, close-grained hardwood — beech, oak, maple or walnut — and mind grain direction through the thin ankle. • Rough the profile, then a fine ball-nose finishing pass brings out the acanthus lobes at the knee. • Leave a square top block untouched for joinery, and sand progressively before staining or waxing. Because it is modelled as one clean piece, it is easy to duplicate and mirror for a matched set that looks like it came straight off an antique.
