Description

A slim classical column that reads as pure order and restraint. The shaft is cleanly fluted — a run of parallel reeded grooves down its length — and it is bracketed top and bottom by matching rounded caps. Each cap is banded with a fine collar and carved with a repeating stylised leaf-and-lyre motif that loops around the drum, while a small turned foot finishes the base. There is nothing fussy here: the piece leans on proportion and the crispness of the flutes rather than heavy ornament, which makes it easy to drop into a lot of different projects. Think of it as a building block — a furniture leg, a cabinet or fireplace pilaster, a bedpost section, a pedestal element for a lamp or a bust. It sits happily in both traditional and pared-back interiors. Making notes: • On a CNC router, cut it as a turned-and-carved blank in a close-grained hardwood such as oak, maple or beech; a rotary/4th axis handles the flutes and the wrap-around cap carving in one setup. • For 3D printing, stand it vertically and use light supports; the flutes hide layer lines well. • Being long and slender, split it into sections for a small bed and dowel the joints. • Clean the flutes with a folded strip of abrasive so you keep the crisp edges between grooves.
