Description

A miniature carved column that rises like a crowned tower. This vertical onlay reads as a stout half-round pilaster, machined on a curved backing so it can wrap onto a rounded post or newel. At the top sits a crown-like capital with upright pointed leaves splayed like a coronet, ringed underneath by a pierced band of little cut-out openings. The shaft below is packed with overlapping scale leaves in the manner of a pinecone or artichoke, each scale tipped and drilled at its point, and the whole thing rests on a rounded base wrapped in tall lambrequin tongues over a stepped plinth. Ornaments like this bring instant weight and grandeur to staircase newel posts, bed frames, mantel legs, clock cases and cabinet corners. Its stacked, symmetrical build makes it a strong vertical accent wherever a plain post needs turning into something regal. Print / carve notes • The curved back means this suits a rotary/4th-axis setup or printing rather than a flat 2.5D pass; check your machine can reach the concave underside of the crown leaves. • Deep pockets between the pinecone scales want a long, slender ball-nose and a shallow stepdown to avoid tool marks. • Tight-grained timber like lime, maple or pear holds the crisp scale tips; clear the tiny pierced openings under the crown by hand if needed. • Finish with fine sanding and a wax or oil; the raised scales and crown leaves catch shadow dramatically once mounted upright.
