Scrolled Cabriole Corbel Bracket

An elegant, elongated corbel with the sinuous S-line of a cabriole leg, this piece is all graceful movement. The top flares into a pair of tight scrolled volutes that roll over like a violin scroll, the long shaft sweeps out and back in a soft double curve, and the foot finishes in a neat little rolled scroll. Slim and tall, it is designed as a vertical support or applied moulding for cabinetry, a mantel surround, a range hood, or the leg of a console table. The cross-section stays rounded and flowing, so this is a true 3D carve rather than a shallow relief — plan for two-sided or rotary machining if you want it fully finished in the round. Carving notes: • For a one-sided relief version, machine the profiled face and leave the back flat to glue against a carcass. • For a full 3D leg or bracket, use indexed two-side machining or a 4th-axis setup and match the seam along the narrowest edge. • Rough with a ball-nose, then finish the volute scrolls with a small tapered bit to reach into the tight spirals. • Straight-grained hardwood carries the long curve without short-grain weakness at the ankle of the S. Sand along the flow of the curve, not across it, to keep that liquid, hand-carved line intact before oiling or waxing.
