Acanthus-Carved Turned Table Leg

A turned leg where classical carving meets clean cabinetmaker geometry. This is a slender furniture leg modelled as a single spindle. The upper third erupts into a deep acanthus-leaf spray, its veined fronds curling outward and tapering to fine points that flow down into the shaft. Below that the profile narrows into a smooth, gently fluted taper, interrupted by two crisp turned ring collars, before swelling into a lobed, gadrooned bulb near the foot. Plain cylindrical tenons top and bottom are left undecorated so the piece can be socketed straight into a rail or seat block. It suits reproduction side tables, console legs, cabinet corner posts and staircase balusters where you want a period feel without hand-carving from scratch. Pair four for a table or run a set of matched balusters up a stair. Print / cut notes • Ideal for 4-axis rotary CNC carving; for a 3-axis machine, split the model down the centre line and glue the halves after carving. • A tight-grained hardwood such as beech, maple or oak holds the leaf detail far better than soft pine. • If 3D printing a master, orient it vertically along the shaft and add supports only under the acanthus undercuts and the gadroon lobes. • Sand the fluted shaft progressively; the leaf tips are delicate, so finish those last with a fine detail file.
