Matryoshka Nesting Doll Relief Panel

A smiling Russian nesting doll, rendered in soft carved relief. This panel shows a classic matryoshka babushka: a plump, egg-shaped doll with a round face, wide expressive eyes and a small rosebud mouth, framed by a headscarf trimmed in a beaded floral border. The scarf ties in a neat bow at her chin, and her rounded body is decorated with a big blooming rose and trailing leaves across the apron, finished with a scalloped hem at the base. It's a shallow-to-medium bas-relief with gently rolled edges, so every element — the lashes, the petals, the scarf pattern — is defined by smooth changes in depth rather than hard cuts. It makes a charming kitchen or nursery plaque, a folk-craft wall hanging, or a decorative front for a keepsake box, and it's a lovely gift with an Eastern-European flavour. Carve & print notes • On a CNC router this is a natural single-setup relief — rough with a 6mm end mill, finish with a 1–2mm ball-nose for the face and floral detail. • Choose a fine, even-grained wood (lime, maple, pear) so the delicate eyes and lashes don't tear out. • For 3D printing, lay it flat, decorated face up, no supports; 0.1mm layers preserve the soft blends. • Pick out the scarf, rose and cheeks with colour washes, or leave it natural and let the relief do the work.
