CNC / turning notes: • On a 3-axis router, screw or vacuum a blank to the bed, rough the well with a flat bit, then finish the whole face with a large ball-nose and a fine stepover to keep the concave sweep mirror-smooth. • Even-grained hardwoods — maple, beech, walnut — or a stabilised blank cut cleanest; a piece of figured timber will really sing across that open rim. • Sand progressively (120 up to 400): with no ornament to hide behind, every stray scratch shows on the curve. • If it will actually hold food or fruit, finish with a food-safe oil or hard-wax; for pure display, a wipe of Danish oil pops the grain. • Scale the diameter to your stock before cutting so the rim does not run off the edge of the blank.
