Description

A firefighter framed in flame — a tribute relief with real weight to it. This circular carved plaque shows a firefighter in full turnout gear, seen from the side: helmet on, SCBA mask over the face with the corrugated air line looping down to the regulator, heavy coat gathered in thick folds across the shoulder, and an axe blade crossing the frame behind. Curling flames are cut into the background field so the figure reads as pushing through a fire. It's a portrait of the job — protective, respectful, and full of the kind of surface detail that rewards a deep carve. This is a natural gift or presentation piece: a station house wall plaque, a retirement or promotion award, a mantel medallion for a serving or retired firefighter. The deep relief and clear silhouette make it read from across a room. Print / cut notes • CNC: the high depth range wants a tapered ball-nose finishing pass; a 1mm or smaller bit picks up the mask hose ribs and coat wrinkles. • Hardwood (oak, walnut, maple) holds the fine folds best; seal end grain before finishing. • FDM: print face-up on the flat back, 0.08–0.12mm layers, no supports; the round rim self-supports. • Finish with a stain-and-wipe to sink pigment into the recesses, or paint it as a coloured relief with a red helmet and steel axe. Mount on a contrasting backer board to frame the disc.
