Description

Grape leaves and corkscrew tendrils tumbling down a vertical spray. This onlay reads top to bottom like a length of vine pulled off the wall. Broad, deeply lobed grape leaves overlap in layers, each one veined and gently cupped so light pools in the hollows, while thin tendrils spiral off the stems and coil into loose ringlets that trail away at the base. The relief is generous and rounded rather than flat, giving the leaves a soft, almost fleshy dimensionality where they curl at the edges. A natural fit for anything with a vineyard or country-kitchen theme: a wine-cabinet door, the corner or stile of a dresser, the side of a mirror or headboard, or a bar back. Mirror it to frame both sides of a panel. Cut notes • The rolling leaf surfaces want a ball-nose finishing pass; a fine tapered bit then cleans the tight tendril spirals and the veins. • Watch the delicate tendril tips — leave a touch more stock there and hand-finish so they don't snap on ejection. • Cut as a raised onlay to glue onto a flat carcass; the design is built to stand proud, not to be inlaid flush. • Oak, walnut or lime all suit it; a walnut-oil finish deepens the shadows between the leaves beautifully. Equally at home limed white for a French farmhouse look or gilded for something more opulent.
