Jolly Ale-Drinker Barrel Relief

Meet the merriest man in the tavern. This high-relief carving shows a rotund, bare-chested reveller mid-chuckle — eyes crinkled shut, bushy moustache lifted in a grin, one plump cheek propped lazily on his hand. In the crook of his other arm he cradles a chunky, quilt-textured beer stein, and he leans his whole contented bulk against a banded wooden barrel that fills the lower right of the panel with its ribbed staves and hooped end. Everything about it is warm and comic: the soft rolls of his belly, the little draped cloth across his lap, the toes peeking out at the base. It's built for pubs, home bars, brew sheds and man-caves, and makes a spot-on gift for the friend who never says no to another round. Carving / print notes • Deep, rounded relief — carve into a solid hardwood block on the CNC with a ball-nose finishing pass to get the smooth flesh transitions and barrel hoops. • For FDM, print the panel face-up flat on the bed and add supports beneath the overhanging forearm, the mug, and the tucked chin. • Resin gives the crispest smile lines and moustache detail at plaque scale. • Stain and wax for a classic mellow-oak look, or paint it up full-colour as a cartoon character board.
