Drifting Quill Feather Panel

A single feather, drifting in stone. This is a bas-relief carving of one long, graceful quill feather, rendered to be cut into a flat panel. The design follows a gentle S-curve from a fine tapered tip down to a slender bare shaft, with the raised central rachis running the full length and rows of individual barbs sweeping off it at a soft angle. Toward the base the barbs loosen into wispy, separated fronds, which keeps the whole thing feeling light and airborne rather than stiff. It is a clean, elegant motif with real depth of relief — the vane rises well proud of the background. This one suits wooden wall art, a headboard or door panel inset, memorial and remembrance plaques, jewellery-box lids or a decorative sign. It reads equally well solo or mirrored as a matched pair. CNC notes • Supplied as a 3D relief for carving in wood, MDF or acrylic; a roughing pass with a larger bit then a 1–2mm tapered ball-nose for the finish captures the barb detail. • Orient the grain along the shaft so the fine barb tips don't chip out. • Watch the delicate fronds at the base — a low finishing stepover and a slow feed keep them clean. • Also prints as a low-relief plaque; lay it flat and add a keyhole slot for wall hanging.
