Description

One plump oak acorn, cap and all, carved to stand proud of the panel. Never mind the workshop filing — what's modelled here is a single, generously rounded acorn rendered as a raised bas-relief. The nut swells to a soft point at its base, the scaly cupule wraps the top third in a stippled, cross-hatched texture, and a short bent stalk kinks off the crown. It reads as autumn at a glance: oak, woodland, harvest, hygge. It's a warm motif for seasonal décor and gifts — a carved plaque for a hallway, an inset for a jewellery-box lid or cabinet door, the centre of a coaster, a fridge magnet, or a repeated border along a mantel. Blown up large it becomes a tactile wall piece; shrunk down, a charming keyring or drawer pull. Making notes • On a router, a tapered ball-nose bit sweeps the domed nut and the cap's pitting in one finishing pass; drop the stepover across the cap to sharpen the grain. • Oak, walnut or beech let the natural figure flatter the subject — seal with oil or hard wax. • Printing instead of routing? Sit it carved-face upward on the bed so supports never touch the acorn; 0.12 mm layers keep the stippling legible. • Mirror or array it for a repeating autumnal frieze.
